JAKE SINCLAIR, MD

Founder

Jake is a San Francisco-based Pediatrician and Founder of Ujamaa – Africa. He is an entrepreneur who developed innovative models of healthcare delivery including the largest Hospitalist Group and the first Pediatric Urgent Care integration with private physicians in the USA. He has been working to develop evidence-based models to care for high-risk youth for the past 20 years. As a survivor, he is a passionate advocate for young victims of domestic and sexual violence and has developed successful Youth Empowerment programs in the USA and Africa.

BENJAMIN OMONDI MBOYA, MSC

As the Executive Director of Ujamaa Africa, Benjamin leads Ujamaa’s school-based program which teaches empowerment defense to girls and gender transformation programs to boys in Kenya, Malawi, Somalia, and South Sudan. Over the past 6 years, he has co-authored several research papers in collaboration with JHU, Stanford, and the United States International University (USIU) studying the effectiveness of this unique dual-gender approach for preventing violence against women and girls. In addition to an undergraduate degree in public health, he holds a Master’s degree in Biometry from the University of Nairobi, School of Mathematics and is currently a Ph.D. candidate at Karolinska Institute.

DAWN NAKANO

Board Member

Dawn has over 20 years experience facilitating program and curriculum development in the education, environmental and civic engagement sectors. After almost a decade conducting public policy research at think tanks in Washington DC, Dawn honed her skills as a process facilitator for multi-stakeholder initiatives involving teachers, schools, non-profits/NGOs, and city and government agencies. Having launched multiple non-profit start ups, Dawn also has extensive non-profit management and fundraising experience.
